Looking for a longsword that delivers both authentic style and a powerful strike? This hand-and-a-half sword is based on a mid-to-late 14th-century original discovered in Lake Constance—right where Austria, Germany, and Switzerland meet. Built for men-at-arms and knights, this weapon could be wielded one-handed from horseback or two-handed on foot, offering maximum versatility in medieval combat.

The blade features a flattened diamond cross-section, stiff and acutely tapered to pierce armor or deliver controlled cuts. The edge geometry is intentionally obtuse, maximizing structural integrity for half-swording and powerful thrusts. The unique wheel pommel, subtly canted inward at the top, adds balance and serves as a formidable striking tool in close quarters.

Crafted by Windlass Steelcrafts, the blade is hand-forged from 1080 high-carbon steel, fully tempered, and distally tapered for historical handling. It comes complete with a leather-wrapped wood-core scabbard and brass chape, making it ready for display, reenactment, or training.

The original sword, Royal Armouries #IX.1106, dates from the second half of the 14th century and was recovered from Lake Constance—a region rich in medieval conflict and trade. This type of longsword would have seen action in battles such as Sempach (1386) and likely crossed paths with techniques laid out by masters like Fiore dei Liberi.

This was a knight’s weapon of choice for armored fighting. The stiff blade was ideal for thrusting into gaps in plate and mail, while the long grip allowed for half-swording and leverage techniques. The weight and balance make it well-suited for grappling and pommel strikes in close-quarter encounters.
